REPRODUCTION IN ORGANISMS
VEGETATIVE
REPRODUCTION BY STEM
VEGETATIVE REPRODUCTION
It is the formation of new plants from vegetative units or propagules such as a buds, tubers rhizomes etc..
We can classified into three Categories
1) By Stem
2) By Root
3) By Leaf
1) VEGETATIVE REPRODUCTION BY STEM
- Runners
- Offsets
- Stolons
- Suckers
- Rhizomes
- Bulbs
- Corms
- Tubers
Runners- These are narrow green horizontal branches which develop at base of Chrown and root at intervals where new Crowns are also formed eg-Lawn Grass ,Centella, Oxalis
Offsets - These are one internode long runners that occurs in some aquatic plants e.g- Eichhornia, Pista
Stolons - These are arched horizontal branches that develope at base of crown and helps in vegetative propagation like runners e.g- strawberry ,vallisneria
Suckers- These are Slender underground branches that develope from base of areal shoot, grow for some distance and form New areal shoots of crowns. e.g- Mint, Chyrysanthemum
Rhizomes- Rhizomes are main underground stem which store food for Perennation during unfavourable condition. These have a buds for formation of new aerial shoots during favourable condition e.g- Aspidium, Adiantum
Bulbs- Bulbs are underground condensed shoots which have one or more Buds These buds present inside the bulbs from new plans. e.g- Garlic,Narcissus,Onion.
Corms- These are unbranched swollen underground stems having a circular nodes that have buds for growth of daughter plants e.g - Amorphophallus,Colocasia,Crocus,Fressia
Tubers- These have a buds over there nodes or eyes. The buds produces new plantlets when a stem Tuber or part of it having an eyes is placed in the soil. e.g- Potato, Artichoke
