REPRODUCTION IN ORGANISMS
INTRODUCTION
- REPRODUCTION - reproduction one of the fundamental characteristics of living organism it involves the formation of young ones by the grown up of individuals
- LIFE SPAN - it is the period from birth to the Natural death of an organism is called as the lifespan
- Life span of an organism usually includs four stages
- BIRTH
- JUVENILITY
- REPRODUCTIVE
- AGEING/ SENESCENCE
- DEATH
Sexual Reproduction
- It occurs almost in all types of animals and mostly in higher plants.
- It is usually biparental.
- Gametes are always formed.
- Fertilization takes place.
- It involves both meiosis and mitosis.
- Young ones differ genetically from the parents.
- Multiplication is not so rapid
- Since there are variations, so it contributes to evolution of the species.
- Asexual Reproduction
- It occurs in lower invertebrates and plants with simple organisations.
- It is always uniparental.
- Gametes are not formed.
- No fertilization.
- It involves only mitosis.
- Young ones are genetically identical to the parent.
- Multiplication occurs rapidly.
- Since there is no variation, so it does not contribute to evolution of the species.
